Changing careers can seem daunting, but for Ieva Drevinskienė, a former Chemical Technology graduate, the journey into IT became a story of growth, resilience, and success. Today, Ieva works as a Scrum Master at Telia, leading Agile practices and helping teams work efficiently on impactful technology projects.
Her transition was supported by the Women Go Tech Acceleration program, which gave her valuable connections, mentorship, and a clear path toward a successful IT career.
From Science to Technology: A Career Shift
“I joined Telia in 2021. While I hadn’t initially planned to work in the telecommunications industry, I was drawn to the company’s strong values and opportunities for professional growth. Working in a large organization like Telia allows me to develop new skills, take on challenging projects, and explore various career paths”.
Ieva’s professional background started in the pharmaceutical sector, but she always had an interest in technology. “About 10 years ago, I began exploring IT job postings and took programming courses. That’s when I realized I wanted to transition into tech,” she says.
How Women Go Tech Helped Open the Door
Applying to the Women Go Tech mentoring program became a turning point. “I was thrilled to be selected. My mentor, an experienced technology leader from Telia, helped me define my goals, understand which IT roles suited me best, and provided advice on building the right skills”.
Through the program, Ieva met inspiring industry professionals and had the chance to visit leading IT companies, including Telia, where she eventually started her journey.
Scrum Master Role: Driving Agile and Team Growth
Over the past four years, Ieva’s role has evolved significantly:
- Started in QA and test environment coordination,
- Took on SAP system update projects,
- Transitioned into the Scrum Master role, leading two teams before focusing on one dedicated Charging & Mediation team.
“A Scrum Master ensures that the team works efficiently by facilitating Agile ceremonies like sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups. The role is about removing obstacles, improving collaboration, and enabling continuous improvement,” Ieva explains.
Her favorite part? “Seeing how team dynamics and productivity improve when Agile practices are embraced. It’s incredibly rewarding to contribute to meaningful IT solutions that impact thousands of users.”
Advice for Starting a Scrum Master Career
For those considering a career as a Scrum Master or IT Delivery Manager, Ieva shares three tips:

- Develop leadership and communication skills – Essential for managing teams and stakeholders.
- Understand IT project management tools – Familiarize yourself with JIRA, Confluence, Trello, or Azure DevOps.
